“Be real, keep things in perspective, and keep going. The best is yet to come!”
I have gone through a divorce and had two young children at the time. I know first hand the concerns and anxiety that clients have during the divorce process. I can counsel you through the process and assist you to achieve your goals and bring your case to resolution.
I earned my undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University with a major in Industrial Marketing. I have a vast amount of experience in business ranging from managing accounts to starting a new business and making it a successful and thriving company. After I divorced, I decided to make a career change. I went back to college knowing I wanted to earn a graduate degree and that led me to enter law school. By achieving a high score on the LSAT I was able to be admitted to Thomas M. Cooley Law School on a scholarship.
While attending law school I worked full time. I worked as a clerk at Oakland County Circuit Court – Family Division and I clerked for Judge Edward Sosnick. Being in the courtroom every day and learning the court process was an invaluable experience. Having hands on experience in family law cases from the beginning of the process through the end resolution with the court, seeing hundreds of attorneys argue cases and how the attorneys and the judges handle the cases sparked my interest in being a family law attorney. It was during this time that I decided to concentrate in Litigation at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Being in moot court allowed me to have experience, while in law school, acting as an attorney. I was on the Dean’s List several times and earned a certificate in Litigation.
Upon Judge Sosnick’s retirement I worked as a legal assistant at a law firm while I completed law school. The firm exclusively handled family law cases. This experience gave me broader knowledge of handling complex cases from a law firm perspective. While working for the firm I graduated from law school and passed the bar exam. I continued to work for the firm and practiced family law exclusively. I decided I wanted to learn and practice in different areas of law to expand myself as an attorney, so I moved to a firm that was a general practice firm. This gave me experience handling many types of cases, such as personal injury, bankruptcy, criminal, contract disputes, and many others, including family law. Through this experience I discovered that family law was my area of expertise and I found it rewarding to assist my clients through the legal process. I then joined a firm to establish their family law practice and handled all of the family law cases for the firm. I also practiced in Probate and Estate Planning.
