"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."
-Harper Lee, To Kill A Mockingbird
Jill N. Erickson brings a unique and powerful perspective to plaintiff advocacy, drawing from over two decades of experience in medical malpractice litigation. Having spent 15+ years successfully defending physicians, hospitals, and healthcare systems in high-exposure cases, Jill now channels that invaluable insider knowledge toward fighting for those injured by medical negligence.
Jill’s extensive background includes partner-level experience at premier Michigan defense firms, including Rhoades McKee in Grand Rapids, Kitch Drutchas Wagner Valitutti & Sherbrook, and Hall Matson, PLC. Throughout her defense career, she managed complex medical malpractice cases involving obstetrics, cardiology, emergency medicine, and surgical procedures. Her notable achievements include securing key summary disposition victories in high-exposure hospital cases, successfully arguing Daubert motions to exclude expert testimony, and second-chairing a two-week jury trial that resulted in a complete defense verdict.
Her deep understanding of defense strategies, expert witness preparation, and medical record analysis provides an unparalleled advantage when advocating for plaintiff clients. Having been on the other side of the courtroom for so many years, Jill knows exactly how defense teams think, prepare, and strategize—knowledge she now uses to build stronger cases for those who have been harmed.
Jill’s path to law began in education, earning her Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education from Ball State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude as an Honors College Fellow. She furthered her educational background with a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University South Bend, where she received a Graduate Research Award for her thesis on Brain-Based Learning. Her calling to law was inspired by Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, which drew her from the classroom to the courtroom. She earned her Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law, where she served on the Moot Court Society Executive Board and received course honors in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Legal Writing, and Contracts. Early in her career, Jill served as a law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge Roger Cosbey in the Northern District of Indiana and gained valuable experience in both plaintiff and defense work, giving her a well-rounded foundation in litigation from multiple perspectives.
