Lab helps science startups during business formation in Michigan

Continually improving scientific innovations is an important endeavor in society. It can help our country stay competitive in the global market, as well as create jobs for Americans. However, there are a variety of formidable obstacles that scientists face during the business formation phase of a science startup company. Two of the main challenges are finding equipment and space to conduct their scientific experiments. One company in Michigan has decided to help scientists get started by making it easier to access equipment and lab space.

The Southwest Michigan Innovation Center just recently announced its new core wet lab in mid-November. The lab is made for scientists that are just starting their latest scientific ventures. The facility contains centrifuges, nitrogen generators, incubators, mass spectrometers, and autoclaves. The lab facility allows bioscientists to rent bench space in order to perform their scientific experiments.

The new facility, named Launch MI Lab, was started with a $100,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The lab is a great option for smaller life science startups who are still trying to get their operations off the ground. The facility has enough space for four to five clients to work simultaneously. Rental space starts at approximately $19 per square foot.

The new Michigan lab makes it possible for startups to begin business formation with less overhead than if they had to purchase their own facility. Scientists will be able to obtain the scientific data they require in order to receive funding for their research projects. This allows entrepreneurial scientists to concentrate on other issues related to forming a business, such as the necessary legal paperwork required to begin a legitimate business.
